Gexcon AS is a world-leading company in the field of safety and risk management and advanced dispersion, explosion and fire modelling. Gexcon’s experience arises from detailed knowledge of explosion phenomena built up throughout years of extensive research projects, carrying out safety assessments, performing accident investigations and performing physical testing at the company’s own dedicated facilities on the Norwegian island of Sotra outside Bergen.
Over the last 40 years, Gexcon has been involved in the investigation of many high profile accidents such as Buncefield, Piper Alpha, TWA 800, and the P-36 platform (Brazil). Leaders in the oil and gas industry and safety engineers at major hazard facilities have consistently sought the services of Gexcon over the past 40 years to provide them with the expertise to manage the risks of fire and gas explosions from flammable substances.
Gexcon develops, maintains and uses the industry standard software for modelling gas explosions; FLACS®. Gexcon also develops, maintains and uses the industry standard for modelling dust explosions, DESC.
Gexcon can assist you in identifying your hazards, understanding your risks and contribute to improving our clients’ safety performance. Gexcon believes in a tailor-made and individual approach for each client. Together with our clients we find the most optimal process to identify your needs and the best way to improve your company’s safety performance.
Gexcon offers jet fire facilities – allowing for testing critical safety related equipment and passive fire protection (PFP) according to the ISO standard 22899-1, 2007, “Determination of the resistance to jet fires of passive fire protection materials — Part 1: General requirements”. Gexcon can provide long duration realistic heat loads of more than 400 kW/m2. The ISO jet fire facility can deliver long duration total heat fluxes of 250 kW/m2 and short duration heat flux loads of 350 kW/m2. Gexcon is the only company in the world able to deliver such high heat fluxes. The jet fire tests can be combined with explosion tests at Gexcon’s explosion test site. As such, an accidental situation can be simulated where passive fire protection material is first exposed to an explosion load followed by a jet fire load.
Headquartered in Bergen, Norway, Gexcon also has offices in Washington DC, Houston (USA), Perth (Australia), Warrington (UK), Jakarta (Indonesia), Dubai (Middle East), Shanghai (China) and Pune (India). Gexcon – the leading global partner in dispersion, fire and explosion safety.
