Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI)

Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. (KHI), founded in 1878, is a global engineering and manufacturing company headquartered in Japan.

With a diverse range of products and services spanning aerospace, rolling stock, shipbuilding, energy systems and industrial equipment, KHI provides technologies that promote sustainable development and resilient infrastructure on land, at sea and in the air.

Within the energy sector, KHI is developing a comprehensive hydrogen supply chain through its ‘Hydrogen Road’ initiative. This includes technologies for hydrogen production, liquefaction, marine transportation, storage, and utilisation. Notable milestones include a pilot-scale supply chain consisting of facilities such as the world’s first liquefied hydrogen carrier “Suiso Frontier”, a hydrogen liquefaction and loading terminal in Australia, and Japan’s first liquefied hydrogen receiving terminal “Hy Touch Kobe”.

KHI is also constructing a new commercial-scale liquefied hydrogen receiving terminal in Japan, which will serve as a central hub for the future import and distribution of hydrogen. These efforts reflect the company’s commitment to enabling a safe, reliable, and globally connected hydrogen ecosystem.

Through its membership of PFPNet, KHI looks forward to engaging with the global passive fire protection engineering community to advance safety standards and best practices—particularly for hydrogen and energy infrastructure where robust PFP solutions are essential.
